Event Spotlight: Dreaming in Color

On Saturday night, Coco Coquette teamed up with Vitamin Water, Big Green House, Sarah K. Wolf, Austin Eavesdropper, and Mouthfeel ATX to take us back in time to the ’90s club kid era for a very unorthodox fashion show featuring 8 local designers competing for an $1,000 grand prize.

This fashion show was a welcome change from the typical runway show - instead of a catwalk, there was a stage, and all of the models were dancers who each performed for an entire song, allowing the audience to get a full appreciation of their crazy club kid inspired costumes.  Each costume also correlated with a different flavor of Vitamin Water, leaving no room for drab colorless costumes.

I thought all the designers did a fabulous job at creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and performances, but the ones that stood out to me the most were Aaron Flynn and Billy Beastly’s dramatic Japanese Kabuki theater-looking ensemble and Amelia Raley’s steampunk-esque costume (with a mechanical bird attached to the front!).  The winner of the contest was Angeliska Polacheck whose sparkly pink unicorn design was reminiscent of her (and my) girly ’90s childhood obsessions with Lisa Frank, Jem, and all things magical and sparkly.  Did I mention that her model was also a pole dancer?

Congrats to everyone for putting together an amazing show!  Click ‘read more’ to see more photos from the night.
